As reported in The Bakersfield Californian: 2016 will be the year of milestones.

Kern County turns 150, having incorporated April 2, 1866, after the California Legislature carved it out of Tulare and Los Angeles counties.

Celebrating the same birthday will be a precursor to The Bakersfield Californian. The Havilah Courier first published on Aug. 18, 1866, under the ownership of George Tiffany and the editorship of Dr. C.W. Bush. It later moved to Bakersfield, changed its name, was combined with another publication, and eventually was purchased by Alfred Harrell, who renamed it The Bakersfield Californian in 1907.

That’s not all. The Kern County Fair turns 100 and the Kern County Museum 75.

Who wouldn’t be excited about all that We certainly are.
